The Correlation Between Damaged Skin and Lifestyle Habits

The Correlation Between Damaged Skin and Lifestyle Habits

I remember watching a celebrity in his early 20’s on TV, some months ago. He had gotten into bad lifestyle habits. I was shocked to see the wrinkled skin and age spots that had formed on his dull complexioned face. Was his looking beyond his years really a result of his lifestyle habits, or was there some other force at work? What is the correlation between damaged skin and lifestyle habits?

Here are some of the lifestyle habits that result into unhealthy skin:

Ditching Sunscreen

The worst thing that you can do to your skin, in today’s age of global warming and climate change, is to go out into the sun without applying sunscreen. UV exposure is, perhaps, the number one cause of skin aging, all across the world. The duration of the exposure does not matter, to say the least, so it is necessary to apply sunscreen even if you are going to just grab a carton of milk from the corner of the street. The importance of it cannot be stressed upon enough.

When it comes to choosing a sunscreen, it is important to ensure that it fulfills the requirements, as set by the experts, for maximum protection.

Bad Eating Habits

The relationship of eating to health seems to be fairly obvious, but it is not. Bad eating habits affect you in ways that you cannot possibly imagine, with conditions like obesity being the mere tip of the iceberg. The cliché “you are what you eat,” is true in ways you never thought were possible. Take excess consumption of starches and sweets, for example. Excess ingestion of carbohydrates causes your skin to lose its smooth appearance and become loose. It also gives rise to acne which, as we all know, can make you look beyond your years.

Ensuring that you take a balanced diet helps your skin as well as your lifestyle. You are what you eat right? Might as well be balanced.

Be Careful with Your Makeup

It is important to think about what you are applying to your face, every day, or you might fall victim to acne. Cheap quality makeup, dirty brushes and makeup wipes all contribute towards damaging your skin.

When purchasing makeup equipment, it is important to ensure that it is of top quality and does not have any side effects. Do not try to save money at the expense of your skin. Also, it is important to clean your brushes, at least, once a month because the use of dirty brushes can lead to acne and skin infections. Also, never use makeup wipes to remove makeup. They will do more harm than good.

Disrupted Sleep Cycles

Are you stuck between the conflict of sleeping and watching another episode, when you have to go to work the next morning? It is important for the sake for your skin that you choose to sleep. Experts suggest that it is imperative for our bodies to get, at least, six hours of rest every day. Apart from the various benefits that adequate sleep patterns have got to offer, they benefit the skin by reducing wrinkles and inflammations. The fact that sleep exaggerates cell regeneration makes it, perhaps, the best treatment for skin aging.

Stress aggravates our skin conditions, if they exist, and creates a toxic environment for our skins, overall. Stress is often the culprit behind oily skins and acne problems, and also affects the production of sebum, which leads to dull complexions. Stress increases the levels of cortisol in your body which causes even the most dormant acne to suddenly sprout up. This is the reason why there is a different kind of romance going on between acne and students, during the exam seasons. It is not possible, obviously, to eliminate stress from our lives, completely. It is possible, however, to get a hold on our stress levels and be able to handle the situation better (with some exercises of course).

It is important when skin conditions, such as acne, sprout up to pay attention to what may be causing it and use best cleanser for acne. Many a times, it is our own habits and lifestyle choices that damage our skins. It would be great, certainly, to have something magical which would solve all of your skin troubles, but the reality of things is quite different. The reality suggests that if we wish to have healthy skins, we need to maintain healthy lifestyles for there is a direct correlation between the two.
